Scroll down until you see 'VST' under the 'Plug-ins' subheading. Select 'VST' to be taken to the page shown above. If the plugin file path is not selected do so by clicking 'Add.' Navigate to the correct plugin file path. Note: If you are on a PC the file path is chosen during the installation process. MAC users default VST location is as. Otherwise just add that path to the DAWs VST settings. I wish Steinberg would change the spec and make it a hardwired path like VST 3 is. Zero reason to allow the vendor to wing it and put tuff wherever they want. Even worse to allow end users to do it. Most of the confusion comes from the plugin developers though not the DAW host. If you’ve installed the demo before, then make sure to install the full edition on top (it overwrites the demo edition). Installation via Windows Installer (Recommended) Download and double click the Setup.exe file. Run through the installer, making sure the plugin path is correctly set for your machine (the VST2 directory in particular).
When a plugin is in the right folder and when you use the insert to get a plugin a list will pop up and you go to where the plugin would be. Say if you had a third party plugin, that's RTAS and it's a reverb, you will go to insert in PT and go to the reverb section and that reverb will be sitting right there, just tap on it and it will pop up. Select VST plugin paths (Windows only) While paths for VST3 and AAX plugins are predefined, you can install VST2 plugins anywhere you want. But it's highly recommended to keep the defaults. In all cases, you just need to ensure you have the VST plugin path selected in your host, so that the host knows where to find the plugins. New to Protools, have to learn it now.
Im a Cubase 5, Wavelab .PC kind of guy.
But some studios I'm working with, doing tracking, mixing of other artists and whatnot.use Protools exclusively.
And they are on a MAC.
Its all new waters for me.
But Im a fast learner, so its no biggy.
Not seeing it in the manual, or I'm blind.
But does Protools LE 8 allow you to setup more than one folder that Protools looks at, when looking for plugins.???
AND.
What method does Protools use to acknowledge newly installed plugins.
Does Protools automatically scan plugins on startup, or when attempting to add a plugin as an insert.???. or is there an option to scan for newly installed plugins??
I know you can do it in Cubase 5, set plugin paths.but not seeing here in Protools..
On another note, the routing of tracks, busses, sends. is way different from what I am used to.so currently focusing on that.everything else is gravy..
